Frequently asked questions

My BusyBox won’t connect. What should I try first?

One at a time, try these: Reboot the BusyBox, restart the app, confirm Bluetooth permissions, move closer, and verify the correct network requirements.

99% of the time a reboot of the device and a restart of the app fix all connectivity.

If your phone did a recent security update, sometimes the app needs new permission approval for integrations. If you can't find them, just delete the app and reinstall. All your preset information will be on the BusyBox and will sync when you reconnect.

Can I make my own messages?

Yes! The method depends on your BusyBox model.

BusyBox D has a full-color digital display, so you can create and upload custom text, graphics, photos, videos, GIFs, and animations through the BusyBox app. the screen is 1280 x 480 px so using Canva, or Figma or any image maker (free or paid for) you can create your own message to fit your mood or your decor (or both).

BusyBox S, S MAX, and R use interchangeable slide-in message inserts. You can purchase additional message packs from BusyBox or make your own using clear plastic with vinyl lettering from a cutter such as a Cricut. Custom 3D-printed messages/placards also work well ... we do it all the time for customers.

Whether you want a polished company message, a studio-style ON AIR sign, or something completely personal, every BusyBox gives you a way to make the message your own.

Can I control more than one BusyBox?

Yes.

With BusyBox S, S MAX, and D, you can use the BusyBox app to organize multiple signs into groups and control them together. This is useful for offices, studios, classrooms, or any workspace with more than one BusyBox.

With BusyBox R, the included RF remote can be programmed for either:

  • One-to-one control — one remote controls one BusyBox R
  • One-to-many control — one remote controls multiple BusyBox R signs at the same time

For example, a studio can use one remote to turn on ON AIR signs at several entrances, while a shared office can keep each remote paired only to one person’s sign.

How long should the battery last?

BusyBox doesn’t have one battery life. It has the battery life you choose.

Runtime depends heavily on brightness, lighting effects, animations, connectivity, and how many hours per day the sign is active. Lower brightness and simpler or blinking displays can extend battery life dramatically.

Typical maximum runtimes in a home or office application include:

  • BusyBox D: approximately 16 hours of display time, depending on screen content and brightness
  • BusyBox S: usually 40 hours
  • BusyBox S MAX: up to 160 hours in our Blink-mode testing
  • BusyBox R: typically 40 hours at indoor brightness settings

Think of it like a smartphone: a bright, continuously active display uses more power than a dimmer, simpler display. You can also leave any BusyBox connected to USB-C for continuous power.

Pro Tip: Use only as much brightness as your room requires. Dark backgrounds on BusyBox D and slower or blinking effects on the LED models can significantly extend runtime. Also, slow blink modes are scientifically better to drive attention and awareness.

Where are BusyBox products manufactured?

BusyBox products are built through a combination of trusted global manufacturing partners and U.S.-based suppliers.

Our primary manufacturing partner has facilities in Taiwan, China, and Vietnam, and we've worked with them for decades. In the United States, we source select components and accessories from local manufacturers in California.

We chose our partners for one reason: to build products we're proud to put our name on. Every BusyBox is designed to deliver premium quality, long-term reliability, and exceptional value.

What is your warranty policy?

Every BusyBox includes a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for as long as you own it.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, misuse, or normal wear. But accidents happen. If you drop your BusyBox, damage the screen, or break a cover, contact us. We offer owner-friendly repair and replacement options designed to get you back up and running without making the process painful. Often free of charge.

Email support@busyboxsign.com and we’ll help you find the best solution.

I’d use “defects in materials and workmanship” rather than “anything not damaged by the user.” It is clearer, more standard, and less open-ended. Your full warranty page should still define exclusions and any proof-of-purchase requirements.

Most BusyBox issues are solved with a quick reboot.

Like most smart devices, sometimes a fresh start is all it needs. If that doesn’t do the trick, we’re here to help. Reach us anytime at support@busyboxsign.com.

It takes about 3 seconds to do a reboot. Like all computers, an occasional reboot keeps the running at their best.
